During a recent stint teaching English at a Korean middle school, I sometimes found occasion to make word puzzles. Fortunately, there are tons of puzzle makers on the web. The one offered by Discovery Education is the most popular.

Unfortunately, though, most puzzle makers are clunky or gimmick-ridden. The vast majority, including Discovery Education's, feature a heavyweight user interface that's far from a pleasure to use. Others are insultingly commercial, offering something lame and inconvenient for free and, I suspect, something just a little less lame and inconvenient for a price. One purveyor pushes its premium version, an offline executable, by claiming that it's impossible to print a puzzle from your browser with a blank header and footer. (With modern browsers, you can customize the header/footer on printed pages however you like.)
